Pethers over the Moon
Uncle Bert became the third winner in just five days for Yorton Stud sire Pethers Moon when scoring in decisive fashion in a hot Maiden at Warwick on Wednesday afternoon in the familiar silks of James and Jean Potter Ltd.
Trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies, the six-year-old produced a very encouraging racecourse debut when second on attritional soft ground at Sandown in November which was followed by a further three solid placed efforts at Ffos Las and Lingfield.
The son of Azza, herself a half sister to dual Becher Chase hero Vieux Lion Rouge, was dropped back to two miles for his next start at the Midlands track and jumped with great fluency and accuracy under a fine front running ride by Jordan Nailor who got a great tune out of his willing partner who went on to score by an impressive eight lengths, with a further 18 lengths back to third.
Looking towards the future and possible targets, decisions like that will be made by his trainer, although there is the possibility he may sneak into a two and a half mile Handicap at the Aintree festival next month, but wherever he goes next there’s no doubt he has a bright future!
As for his sire, Pethers Moon is fast becoming a stallion to keep a very close eye on and his offspring continue to go great guns on the track. Lunar Chief was an easy winner of a bumper on his debut at Newcastle on Saturday while Big Blue Moon won decisively at Carlisle last weekend. Throw into the mix the 125-rated Deere Mark, top class Bumper mare Lunar Discovery a long with the high class Moon Hunter and it’s fair to say Pethers Moon has plenty going for him and a covering fee of just £2,500 looks fantastic value in today’s financial climate!
